Still 'datadocked' on your website? Why and how to update your communications

Type “datadocké” into a search engine: you will still find training organisations’ websites proudly displaying the mention, sometimes with the old logo, often in the footer or on a “Quality guarantees” page. Yet that referencing has had no effect since 1 January 2022. This ghost mention is not a cosmetic detail: it sends the wrong signals to your clients, your funders and your partners. Here is why it must go, where to hunt it down, and what to put in its place.

What the “datadocked” mention really says about you in 2026

Datadock was the joint funders’ quality referencing, in service from 2017 to 2021; the scheme is extinct and worthless today — the detail is in our article Is Datadock still valid in 2026?. Keeping it on display produces three effects, all unfavourable.

A signal of obsolescence. For an informed reader — an OPCO adviser, a corporate training buyer, a competitor — the mention instantly dates your website: at best, your communications have not been reviewed since 2021; at worst, neither has your quality system. That is the exact opposite of what a quality mark is meant to achieve.

A risk of misleading. Presenting as a current guarantee a scheme that guarantees nothing any more can mislead a client who, on the strength of that mention, believes their funding options are open. The French Consumer Code sanctions misleading commercial practices, notably where they concern the scope of the advertiser’s commitments or an approval it no longer holds. Without overdramatising — litigation on this precise point remains rare — prudence dictates never displaying an extinct mark as if it were alive.

An inconsistency with your current obligations. If you are Qualiopi-certified, the framework requires accurate, up-to-date public information about your services. An auditor browsing your website before the audit — a common practice — who finds a quality mark that vanished four years ago will note the flaw in your update process. The obsolete mention then becomes a clue of non-conformity in how you control your communications.

The economics of signals: why a dead label costs more than it earns

It may seem harmless to leave one extra mention up — “it costs nothing”. Information economics suggests otherwise. In his foundational article on the market for “lemons”, published in 1970 in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, George Akerlof shows that in a market where the buyer cannot assess quality directly, trust rests entirely on credible signals — and that debased signals contaminate trust across the whole market (see the study). Vocational training is a textbook market of information asymmetry: the client only knows a course’s quality after taking it. Displaying an expired signal there causes two kinds of damage: it offers no guarantee to those who do not know, and it destroys credibility with those who do. A quality mark is only worth its ongoing verification — that is the whole difference between an extinct referencing and an audited, maintained certification.

Where to hunt the mention down: the checklist

The “datadocked” mention rarely survives in just one place. Review:

• Your website: footer, home page, “Quality” or “Funding” pages, legal notices, downloadable terms and conditions, old blog posts.
• Your sales documents: PDF brochures, proposal templates, quote and training-agreement templates, email signatures.
• Your external profiles: professional directories, social networks (banners and “About” sections), business listings, profiles on training marketplaces.
• Your course materials: welcome booklets, internal rules, session-opening slide decks — templates created in 2018-2020 often carry the mention in the footer.
• Your contract templates: subcontracting agreements and terms requiring a partner to be “Datadock-referenced” — a clause without object, to be rewritten around the current certification.

Use the sweep to verify everything else at the same time: prices, access lead times, displayed satisfaction rates. Hunting the dead mention is an excellent gateway to a full review of your public information.

What to display instead

If you are Qualiopi-certified: display the certification with its exact scope — it applies to precise categories of actions (training, skills assessments, VAE, apprenticeship) and its display follows usage rules set by the State. State the covered category or categories, without extrapolating.

If you are not: display nothing that resembles an official quality mark. Highlight verifiable elements instead — measured results, dated testimonials, client references. In every case, historical use remains legitimate: a “our quality journey” timeline stating “Datadock-referenced from 2017 to 2021, Qualiopi-certified since 2022” is honest, dated, and tells a story of sustained commitment. The rule is simple: Datadock in the past tense, never in the present.
