Electrical authorisation training (NF C 18-510)
Prior training is a regulatory obligation under the Labour Code; the authorisation itself is issued by the employer, not by the training provider.
Issued by: Authorisation issued by the employer; training governed by the French Labour Code and standard NF C 18-510
Providers training workers who carry out operations on or near electrical installations (symbols B0/H0, BS, BR, B1/B2, BC…).
What this scheme covers
- C.1Theoretical and practical preparation for electrical authorisation under NF C 18-510, tailored to the target symbol.
- C.2A named trainer's opinion issued at the end of the course, on which the employer relies to grant the authorisation.
- C.3Periodic refresher training recommended by the standard (advised interval of around three years).
The link with Qualiopi
There is no specific State approval to deliver these courses, but the provider must evidence its trainers' competence and adequate resources — and hold Qualiopi whenever the course is funded.
To prepare Qualiopi certification itself, see the guide to the 32 indicators of the framework.
The process, summarised
- 1.Design the programmes in line with NF C 18-510 and the target authorisation symbols.
- 2.Rely on trainers competent in electrical-risk prevention and on suitable practical facilities.
- 3.Assess trainees and issue the individual opinion enabling the employer to grant the authorisation.
FAQ — Electrical authorisation
+Who issues the electrical authorisation?
The employer, after the training and in view of the trainer's opinion: the training provider prepares workers for the authorisation but does not issue it.
+Must a provider be approved to deliver this training?
No, there is no dedicated State approval; the provider must however follow NF C 18-510 and evidence suitable trainers and resources.
+How often should the authorisation be refreshed?
The standard recommends periodic refresher training, with an advised interval of around three years, adjusted to how often the worker practises.
