ISO 29993 certification (learning services outside formal education)
A voluntary approach covering the learning service itself rather than the management system.
Issued by: Certification and conformity-assessment bodies (AFNOR Certification, Bureau Veritas…)
Continuing-education and learning-service providers wishing to have the quality of their services attested.
What this scheme covers
- C.1Service requirements for learning services outside formal education: learner information, needs analysis, design, delivery, learning assessment (published in 2017).
- C.2The standard succeeded the withdrawn ISO 29990; the management-system side is now covered by ISO 21001.
- C.3An approach focused on transparency of the service delivered to learners and sponsors.
The link with Qualiopi
ISO 29993 describes a quality learning service, in a spirit very close to the Qualiopi indicators on public information, needs analysis and assessment. It opens no rights to French funding, however.
To prepare Qualiopi certification itself, see the guide to the 32 indicators of the framework.
The process, summarised
- 1.Align services with the standard's service requirements (prior information, objectives, materials, assessment).
- 2.Have conformity assessed by a third-party body.
- 3.Maintain conformity over time through follow-up assessments.
FAQ — ISO 29993
+How does ISO 29993 differ from ISO 21001?
ISO 29993 sets requirements on the learning service itself; ISO 21001 covers the organisation's management system. They complement each other.
+What happened to ISO 29990?
It was withdrawn: its two components were taken over by ISO 29993 (service requirements) and ISO 21001 (management system).
+Do funders require ISO 29993?
No. In France, access to public and pooled funding runs solely through Qualiopi; ISO 29993 remains a differentiation choice.
